Better Together Discussion Questions

Engaging students in meaningful conversations with their peers helps build vital character education skills needed for healthy relationships, such as listening to others, perspective-taking, and responding with empathy. Friendship matters.

Engaging students in meaningful conversations with their peers helps build vital skills needed for healthy relationships, such as listening to others, perspective-taking, and responding with empathy. Friendship matters. Let’s talk about why:

Group Questions

  1. Friendship can be amazing, and it can be hard sometimes too. Why do we need friends? Why is life better together with friends?

  2. Give an example of when a friend or group of friends came alongside you when you were sad or having a bad day. How did that make you feel?

  3. Share about when you came alongside a friend to celebrate with them when something good happened. How did this strengthen your friendship?

  4. At recess, four people are playing basketball. Your close friend walks up and asks if they can join. Another player turns and says they don’t need more people to play with. Your friend’s eyes start to water as they walk away.

    • What do you think your friend is feeling inside?

    • How would you feel if you weren’t allowed to join the game?

    • How could the players have been more inclusive?

  5. Why are we better together instead of alone?
