Daily Journals

One way we can record our experience and process through the emotions and thoughts that come is to keep a daily journal. Journaling can be a great stress reducer; journaling can organize our thoughts, clear our minds and facilitate problem-solving.

One way we can record our experiences and process the emotions and thoughts that come to us during challenging situations is to keep a daily journal.

Research indicates that writing and drawing help us by giving us space to organize our thoughts and give personal meaning to a traumatic experience. When we engage in writing about an experience, it helps us regulate our emotions and allows us to stop worrying or ruminating about circumstances.

Finally, when we take time to process our thoughts about a circumstance privately, we are more likely ready and willing to reach out and talk with others about it.

Encourage your children to journal daily to record their experiences and process their thoughts and feelings; not everyone journals the same so, they have choices. The My Daily Journal is grade specific and has space to draw or write about the day. It also includes space to reflect on how your child is feeling and a space to remember three things that went well in the day. The 3 Things Journal has different prompts to guide your child through reflecting upon the day by writing three things down for each prompt. Download these activities today! All activity pages can be printed. The 3-5 and 6-8 grade pages, along with the 3 Things Journal, are also fillable PDFs. Simply use with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC (download for free) or upload to Google Drive and use with an add-on such as, DocHub or Lumin. (For a larger detailed view, click on the page thumbnails.)
